Learning Disability Nurse and Social WorkerWhy I Work at CAMHS
I qualified as a Learning Disability Nurse/Social Worker, for twelve years I have worked in CAMHS, particularly offering interventions to children and young people who are described as having all levels of learning disabilities and additional complex neurodevelopmental needs. I have a passion to offer evidence based interventions to this group of young people to enable them to manage everyday life which at times can become stressful and then lead to more serious issues and deterioration in their mental health.My Skills and Interests
I have training as a Learning Disability Nurse, Social Worker, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Applied Behavioural Analysis- Behaviour Therapy, ADOS-Assessment of children, young people and adults who may have an ASD diagnosis and also in AIM assessment.
I am interested in working with young adolescents; who are going through transition from CAMHS to Adult Services. I am interested in working with young people who have a Learning Disability who become involved in the criminal justice system and also working with children and young people with severe Learning Disabilities who have complex physical health and behavioural needs.
I am a committed mentor and practice educator- supporting nursing, social work and joint programme students from higher education establishments.
I am involved in providing teaching and learning to pre-registration nurse/social work students.
A Bit About Me
I am married and have a two-year-old son who keeps me busy. I have been a foster carer for ten years, for one young man who is described as having severe learning disabilities. I enjoy reading, listening to music, getting lots of sleep and feeding ducks!! I enjoy eating out and hope to take up singing in the future.
